Instead of trying to catch up, I'm going to continue my list from last week, and then start from where I left off.
My Friends Are Better at Music Than Me #6-#1
#6 "Chelsea Dagger" The Fratellis, Costello Music
Olivia, in a convertible car trip to Maine
"I was good, she was hot, stealin' everything she got."
I first heard Costello Music on a road trip to Maine, and the entire album has been a staple on my iTunes ever since. I picked "Chelsea Dagger" because I once heard it in a French discotheque, and for 3 minutes, me and 100 French people had a moment. It will probably never happen again.
Olivia is my old roommate, and a badass. Once I let her go to a party so I could stay home and read Twlight. I am not proud of this. I am not proud.
#5 "Four Minute Warning", Mark Owen, In Your Own Time
Cody, in a highschool AIM chat.
"Four minutes left to go, is this the end then? Message on your stereo: Four Minute Warning."
A history lesson, and a song all-in-one. What could be better? Owen tells the last four minutes of London in real-time (four minutes exactly, very meta, Mark), and you can't help but feel sad and upbeat simultaneously. Mark was one of the members of Take That, which is an awesome British band that America just couldn't like for some reason. It's a shame. But this song introduced me to Mark, (check out "Makin' Out"), which introduced me to Take That, which started my weird love affair of Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow.
Cody and I were on a television game show together once. He was a fan of piano suspenders, bow ties, and helping me get an A on my Chem Reports.

#4 "Little Talks" Of Monsters and Men, My Head is an Animal
Gabby, gchat conversation at work (saving me from inevitable boredom)
"The stairs creak as I sleep, it's keeping me awake. It's the house telling you to close your eyes."
This song is pretty popular at the moment, but I wouldn't have had any idea because I keep on listening only to covers of Bon Iver's "Skinny Love." (Ed Sheeran and Birdy remain high favorites.) I can't tell you what the song is about (crazy lady or ending relationship) or what the video is referencing (but it's freaking kickass.) And they're from Iceland, so obviously they're beardy and wonderful.
Gabby and I suffered through a horrible summer job and became friends. Then we drank a lot of beer and became awesome.

#3 "Furr" Blitzen Trapper, Furr
Lemus, on his college radio station DJ gig
"And now my fur has turned to skin, and I feel quickly ushered in to a world I confess I do not know. But I still dream of running careless through the snow..."
I included the live version here, not because I think it's better (both are awesome.), but because you get to see how hairy and Portlandy these men are. I don't even care. This song is exactly what growing up feels like, no matter when you did. I dare you not to be introspective. I DARE YOU.
Lemus is really a friend of a friend, sort of. But he had the best college radio show, and I'm still listening to it 3+ years later.

#2 "Challengers" The New Pornographers, Challengers
The TV Show Chuck
"On the walls of the day, in the shade of the sun, we wrote down another vision of us: we were the challengers of the unknown."
The New Pornographers are the people behind one of my favorite music videos of all time ("Sing Me Spanish Techno"). That being said, you really can't go wrong with any of their songs. Plus, they're Canadian, so they're polite and lovely. Listen to them, and then listen to Neko Case's solo stuff. She reminds me of an older Rilo Kiley, except they're sort of the same age. I don't really know.
Chuck is a TV show, and not a friend, but I spent more time with it in 2008 than probably real friends, so I'm counting it.

#1 "Wagon Wheel" Old Crow Medicine Show, O.C.M.S.
Danny, at Josie's, with cowboy boots on and a dollar in the jukebox
"I made it down the coast in seventeen hours, pickin' me a bouquet of dogwood flowers..."
Oh Danny, I owe you one. In what was an innocent play on a jukebox turned into a love affair between 15+ people, and I'm pretty sure every one of cries inside hearing this now. "Wagon Wheel" may be something to a bunch of frat assholes, or old, classy folk singers, but to us it was a family. PLUS PAUL RUDD HAD IT ON HIS iPOD, SO WHATEVER WE'RE COOL.
Danny is...she knows what she is. She just is it.
(and yeah, the format on this post was being weird, but I sat down and wrote it, and that should be enough. stop being greedy.)
