YouTube Tuesday: Aicha Aicha....Aicha

Aicha, By Gellieman.

For my inaugural YouTube Tuesday, I tried to think of a YouTube video that meant a little more to me than most. Considering the quality of YouTube, this took a long time. However, after much deliberation I decided upon the video that more likely than not inspired my love of the internet, circa 2003. (before the birth of Youtube itself!)

That video is Aicha. It's a young Beligan guy singing a French song, in easily the most awkward way possible. It's one of the staples of internet memedom, and our young Belgian friend probably regrets making it every moment of his life. But he shouldn't, because I love it. I love the overdramatic, lyrical movements, and I've memorized the dancing during the end refrain. But what I truly enjoy most of all is the Mickey Mouse bedsheet, so delicately folded onto some weird attic bed. Forget your dance of woo, potential suitor. You show me your outdated Disney bed gear, and I'll show you my heart.

Me + Internet = Forever because of Gellieman, and I thank him immensely....for probably simultaneously inventing and ruining my life.

Please note the wonderful 'speech bubbles' prompting us to wonder, exactly, how does she move? Also please note, Gellieman is not a horrible singer. My hope is that almost 10 years later, Gellieman is some High School Music teacher in Belgium, teaching the youth how to play violins and the occasional didgeridoo.
